Life is as varied as the people we
meet. Parent Plus has been involved with families from every walk of life.
Each circumstance is different. but all have one
thing in common-loss or illness of a parent, loved one, or other close
family member.
Over the past two years we have connected with over fifty families and counselors
and offered programs in gymnastics, theater, soccer camps, tutoring, and
much more.
There is still the pain of loss, the grief, and longing for a loved one.
But time marches on, and so must we. Those who once stood alongside us are
still in our hearts, cheering us on as we continue shared pursuits, or take
on new challenges.
One of the strongest
influences in my life was gymnastics coach Chuck Luttinger,
who provided guidance and support for many years. My mom died when I was 10
and I headed down the wrong road, and Coach Luttinger
was there to show me a better way. Even though I did not always take his
advice, he found a way to take me back in the gym. Over the next seven
years he took the time to teach me how to overcome adversity, how to set
and achieve goals, and how to strengthen the mind and body. Even today,
over thirty years later, his leadership and the sport of gymnastics still
play a very important role in my life. In fact, it wasn't until many years
had passed, did I realize how important Coach had been to me.
